In the evening. the group will meet in the hotel lobby for complimentary welcome drinks and a briefing by your Tour Guides. (We will have a briefing and drinks at this time every day thereafter). We then take a short walk to the epicentre of Old Hanoi, Hoan Kiem Lake and Jade Hill. We enjoy a Welcome Dinner in a popular local restaurant.

We make an early start and are transferred by private air-conditioned bus to picturesque Ha Long Bay. Here we take a private boat journey through the breath-taking scenery of 2000 World-Heritage listed limestone islands. We will visit the families that call the bamboo-thatched boats home before enjoying a mouth-watering seafood lunch and a swim in the tropical waters (bring your swimsuits and a towel!). After lunch we visit Sung-Sot-Grotto, Ti Tov Mountain and take a rowing boat ride among the limestone karsts. In the evening we enjoy the peacefulness of Ha long Bay while staying on-board the exotic Junk.

After breakfast we say goodbye to our boat crew and return to Hanoi in our bus. After lunch at a local restaurant, the afternoon is free to relax or go exploring independently. After our briefing that evening, we are treated to a water puppet show before enjoying dinner at a local restaurant.

Today we enjoy the historical sites of Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, Uncle Ho’s house, the One-Column-Pagoda (Chua mot cot), the Temple of Literature (Van Mieu, Vietnam’s first university) and the Maison Central (a prison dating back to the French colony). We have lunch at KOTO, a restaurant managed by former street kids. In the afternoon we explore the French Quarter and enjoy an early dinner. We then catch an overnight train at 7:00 p.m. arriving at Hue at 8:00 a.m. the next day. (This will be a soft-sleeper car with 4 passengers per carriage. All bags will stay with us. Bring something comfortable – and modest! - to sleep in.)

After arrival and transfer to our hotel in Hue, we will take a cyclo ride (like a rickshaw) to our lunch spot near the colourful market that is well-known for its Cai Non, or Vietnamese cone hats. After lunch we take a tour to the Forbidden Imperial City and visit the partly renovated Citadel which was the Emperor’s residence from 1802 until 1945. Sadly, much of the old Imperial City was bombed during the Tet Offensive in 1968. Tonight we enjoy a traditional Imperial Dinner at the famous Royal Park Restaurant.

After breakfast we take a boat trip on the Perfume River to Thien Mu Pagoda and Minh Mang Tomb. After lunch we visit the palace-like tomb of Emperor Minh Mang (second emperor of the Nguyen Dynasty) and then reboard the bus (or go on motorbikes as passengers if you wish!) to visit Khai Dinh tomb (last Emperor to be acknowledged by the Republican Government), the Japanese Wood Bridge and a local market. We’ll also meander through the green rice paddies where time seems to just stand still. Dinner at a local restaurant.

Today we will enjoy a stunning bus trip over the Cloud Pass to Danang and Hoi An. We will stop at Marble Mountain to enjoy the brilliant views of the four other Marble Mountains and China Beach, enjoy lunch in Danang then make our way to the Chinese-Japanese port town of Hoi An. Afternoon and evening free to enjoy at leisure.

We explore the old historic centre of Hoi An on foot visiting the Japanese Bridge, merchants’ houses from the 16th century, Chinese temples and communal houses. After lunch, we board a boat on the Thu Bon River to visit Kim Bong Island and Carpenter Village to see the local craftsman at work. Dinner in a local restaurant.

After breakfast, we will take a bus to Danang International Airport for our morning flight to Nha Trang. After checking in to our hotel, our bus will take us to one of the most beautiful bays in the world, Nha Trang Beach, for an optional swim. Do your own thing at lunchtime, then in the afternoon our bus will take us to the Thap Ba Hot Spring Center for a nutrient-rich mud bath. Dinner at a local restaurant.

Today we will take an Island-hopping cruise of the majestic waters of Nha Trang Bay and enjoy a fresh seafood lunch on-board. After returning to our hotel mid-afternoon, the rest of the day and night is free to explore this charming seaside town at your leisure.

Today our bus takes us on a tour through the countryside - the backbone of Vietnam. Here we will gain an insight into the everyday lives of the local agricultural community, learn how local farmers work the rice paddies with water buffalo and how they tend to their crops. We’ll also see the many orchards and lotus ponds and stop to chat with some of the children.
Later we’ll go shopping at the local market to pick up the ingredients for our Vietnamese cookery class! We spend the second half of the day cooking and relaxing at Dat’s family house in the countryside. Our culinary skills better be good as we will be eating the fruits of our labour!
That evening our bus takes us to the station to catch the overnight train to Saigon. (Soft-sleeper car as per Day 4).

We are met at the train station in Saigon and transferred to our hotel. After breakfast we take a walking tour of this exciting city visiting Notre Dam Cathedral, the Main Post Office, City Hall and Ben Thanh Market. We have lunch at Com Tam Saigon (Broken Rice Restaurant). The affternoon is free to do some last-minute shopping.
Tonight we are treated to a special Farewell Dinner at a surprise venue!
